What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed convention for a plain-text file at the root of your site that gives AI assistants a curated map: what the site is, and which pages answer which questions. Where robots.txt says what crawlers may fetch, llms.txt says what is worth reading. A growing number of AI tools check for it before crawling blind.
Does llms.txt help AI visibility?
It is one signal among many, and a cheap one to ship. A good llms.txt makes it easier for assistants to find your pricing, docs, and comparison pages instead of guessing from navigation. It will not rescue thin content, but it removes friction between your best pages and the systems that quote them.
Where does the file go?
Serve it at the root of your domain: yoursite.com/llms.txt. On most stacks that means dropping the file into your public or static folder and deploying. Keep it current when your key pages change; a stale map is worse than none.

It is a community proposal (llmstxt.org), not a ratified standard. Adoption is growing because it is trivial to implement and unambiguous to parse. The format this generator produces follows the proposal: an H1 title, a one-line summary quote, and sections of linked pages with descriptions.
